Synchro squeal? Just need one more week!
Hi all,
I've got a non-S 2005 Mini convertible (103k mi), 5 speed getrag transmission.... for another week. My new car comes on the 24th...
Starting to seem like it's going to come down to the wire.... Sometimes at a stop, I can't push from neutral into any gear, all I hear is a quiet squeal... Lots of barking during gear changes if I don't rev match really well. Sometimes hard to pull out of gear too.
I replaced the transmission fluid with mini dealer fluid at 100k miles, also replaced shift cables and shift tower... realized that the clutch and transmission were both in need of serious work, so I decided it was time to retire my 12 year old car and get new...
Any suggestions on what I can do to give myself a better shot of this thing making it one more week (about 300 miles, some stop and go)
Should I drain the transmission and put in some kind of synchro friendly lube? Any additive I can put in? Or have I misdiagnosed?
Worst case, assuming I don't get stranded, I'll stash it and get a rental for a week, but they're really expensive in my area.
Thanks!

Sounds like your clutch isn't working correctly, no amount of fluids or additive is going to fix it.
You can turn the car off at a stop to get it into a gear easier. Also it's easier to rev match the less aggressive you drive. Slow down, take it easy, and you might make it through the week.

Pretty sure getrag... 2005 convertible.. sept 2004 delivery... Looking at images online... yes. Getrag.
Co-worker of mine tells me he things my clutch isn't completely disengaging (when pressing pedal). Maybe bleed slave cylinder...
Going to try to look into it shortly, but might not even have time before the new car is in.
