Burning oil - 1 quart per 500 miles

I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S with 63k miles.
My driving conditions are normal (daily commute to work 18 miles each way).
my last service was done at 60500K miles
  1. oil changed
  2. replaced oil filter housing gasket
  3. replaced oil pan gasket
  4. replaced vacuum pump.
  5. performed a intake valve deep cleaning due to too much carbon deposit.

Recently the car seems to be burning lots of OIL. @62k miles I have added 1 quart of oil and another 1 quart at 62.5k miles. Now at 63k the Mini is demanding for another quart of oil. This car burns lots of oil 1 quart for every 500 to 600 miles.

Is there anyone out there facing similar issue of burning too much of oil. What could be the cause of this oil burning and suggestions to trouble shoot the issue ?

if it's not over full and you cant see where its going, it's probably the turbo seal

Oil consumption that exceeds 1 quart per 750 miles is considered excessive and is in need of additional diagnosis.. Double check and make sure there are no leaks. We have an oil consumption tech article that goes over a lot if you have questions about it. We include this in the article:

Here is a summary of potential causes of high oil consumption:

Incorrect viscosity oil

Crankcase ventilation system faulty

Oil diluted or contaminated

Mechanical leaks: Seals, piston rings, valve seals, gaskets

High speed driving, heavy loads

Heat wave, city driving, incorrect fuel

Engine overfilling
The article goes into further detail of the above items on our site under the "tech info" tab at the top. Hope you get your issue figured out. Good luck.

I've seen a few threads on here about the PCV in the valve cover, which required the entire cover to be replaced..

My 2010 Cooper S burns about a quart of oil every 1500 miles. To me that's ridiculous. My 1980 Camaro I drove in High School in the 80s didn't burn oil at this rate. How can BMW smugly claim that's normal, meanwhile Honda can build engines that burn no oil and produce the same hp?

I had a similar problem on my 2008 MCS...it loved to drink oil. I solved the problem by trading it in.

Recent onset of oil consumption for the Prince Engine can be attributed to lack of proper crank case ventilation. Your model has a dual PVC system built INTO the valve cover itself so not as easy as with most other cars or prior years.

New valve covers cost appx $360.00 and come complete with new cover gasket.
