05 mini I've had since '08. Has 155K miles. Died yesterday. No compression in Cyl 2. About 6 months ago the spark plug ejected and I put in an insert. Worked perfectly fine until yesterday when it suddenly died. Mechanic looked with borescope & said rings are shot, piston wall is scored. My options are to part it out or to have a used engine installed. I found a place that has a used engine with 123K miles. He offered to install this for $1500 with a 6-month warranty. So my question is.... would you part this car out, put in the used engine, or maybe some other option I am not thinking about? Other than the bad engine, the car is in quite good shape.

 

How much is the used engine?

 

He told me he would replace the engine with the used one for $1500 which includes the cost of the engine.

That sounds like a great deal as long as the engine is good. The 6 month warranty definitely helps. Does the used engine come with the supercharger? If you can keep your old one as a spare, or sell it, that would make the price even better.
