Can a thunderstorm cause non-starting?

In the wee hours this morning a strong thunderstorm passed through. This morning I when I tried to leave for work my 2011 Clubman S would not start. All the dash lights come on as normal. With the key in and door open it shows the key light and sounds the chime as normal. But when I press the brake and the start button nothing happens. There is no audible click from the engine compartment. No sound at all; nothing happens.

I was late and my wife gave me a ride to work. We didn't have time to try to jump start it or look at anything. It was a frustrating morning.

Is it possible that the storm caused a system fault somehow? What should I look at first tonight?

10 to 1 it is the battery

try jumping it ...

if your 11 is on the original battery, it is time

remember you don't hear slow crank anymore ... the computer either says OK to start or NOT ... sounds like you transitioned to NOT

I was able to put a multi-meter on the battery, and it read 10V. I suppose that is why it is not starting.

The frustrating thing is that the battery says it is from January of this year. (I bought the car used this summer, not from a MINI dealer.)

I'm going to take it to the MINI dealer for service, so they get it set up correctly this time. Too bad the nearest MINI dealer is 70 miles away.

Leave a light on? You might have a bad cell or battery, but other reasons are far more common...
Amazing how folks can grasp at any idea to hope it not a problem....
Jumpstart it...then have the battery tested at the local auto store...free...save you the drive.f of me the 3 hour trip might not be worthy the $300 saved on a quality battery.
Even a "free" fix has a price that can be too great.

I have a neighbor who has a couple flashing LEDs, a dashcam, and something else running....
Kills his battery in a couple days ... mentionedit to him...says naww...
Then complains his battery barely starts his car some days, and he is on his 2nd one since he got the car....

And one more thought....
Really?
Kinda like somebody saying coke is dangerous to drink cause it can RUST A NAIL!!
Last time I checked, a glass of water does that too!!
Just making sure everyone is still smiling....
I also heard once if you inflate you tires with nitrogen, to gain 50 mpg!! That's why it costs $20 a tire to fill?!
Oh yeah...air you breath is roughly 80% nitrogen....

You will need to register the new battery to the car.
