Almost failed Pa emissions
Almost failed Pa emissions
Took my MCS to the local shop for inspection/emissions. Here in PA the emissions test is an OBD II test that reads the diagnostics. Despite taking the car for 2-hour drive it refused to run the comprehensive diagnostic. All of the individual tests were green. The shop owner ended up calling the state and getting a special waver. The man at the state office said that this has been a problem for "some minis".
Anybody heard of this?

Yes, this has been mentioned on MINI2. I think that the occurance is not more frequent due to many going back to the dealer for inspections since warranty is still in effect. We would never even hear about it in this case.

Usually unplugging the connector and restarting the OBD II computer test fixes this. Make sure that nothing is tapped into OBD II connector power, alarm and stereo installers like to do this. Make sure you have power on pin #16 of the connector; many cars use the same circuit as the Power Point or Cigarette Lighter. I have not checked the Mini yet as to what fuse or circuit it is.
