Windshield wipers acting up!!!
On a recent road trip, in the middle of a thunderstorm at Yellowstone, my windshield wipers decided to act up, and completely stop working. They froze in the halfway up position, and would not move again until I "rebooted" the car. The tempurature was not extreme, but it was pretty wet. It happened a few times in a row during that storm, and I could see it being potentially dangerous. I didn't encounter this problem again until yesterday here in Seattle it rained, and the same deal, though I have encountered some rain & used the wipers in between those times with no troubles.
It has some other strange things happening, where pressing down for the single wipe sometimes will let it continue wiping away until I push the lever up and down, on & off. I experimented with using the auto sensing or just manual on, but it would still freeze up randomly. Something seems to be up with the computer for the wipers...
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or even better have a suggestion for something simple I could check? I'd prefer not to go see the dealer if I can avoid it, as I predict they will want to keep the car until they can replicate the problem, which is totally intermittent. Anyone know of something simple I should check before submitting myself to the whims of my local service dealer?
