Help! 2011 Clubman S quote - ignition coils
2011 Clubman S 52000 to dealership for routine oil, wiper, spark plugs under ext maint agreement days before Christmas. No problems on 350 mile trip to visit family & dealer but dealer kept for "codes that came up after problem with oil change" related to oil pressure & engine ventilation and heating?
Ran 4 hr computer update, next AM still throwing codes- was actually offered a loaner for 350 miles trip home/350 miles back over holidays but mechanic cleared my MINI while getting loaner. Was told spark plugs not time/not needed. Drove home 350 miles, could hear/feel a light steady flapping/vibration at higher speeds if radio/air turned off. Got home,no codes, no loose windows etc nothing except oil was higher on MINI stick. Only a few short in town trips for 3 weeks, made return trip- 350 miles and again heard/felt noise.
Parked overnight, drove 15 miles, yellow 1/2 engine light -rough, tried to die on interstate. Limped to dealership. Diagnosis/quote- ignition coil cylinder 4 failed - $608.39, recommend spark plugs replaced - $146.32, recommend oil pressure valve replaced -(has shorted wires) $932.60 - total $1687.31
Could "routine oil change issues" be related to this? and at this price??

That's a lot for just an ignition coil replacement. We have full ignition kits HERE, which include the coils and plugs at a much lower cost than the dealership. Install is fairly simple if you have the right tools. For the oil pressure valve, I'd recommend going to this site HERE and finding a local MINI independent repair shop in your area. They should be able to do that work at a much much lower cost than the dealership. You could also get the ignition kit from us and have them install it for you if you don't feel that you can.

How classic, you go to the dealer for routine maintenance and issue pop up out of nowhere that wasn't there beforehand. You would do well to completely avoid the dealers and save thousands of dollars doing so.
