Is making cams for the Mini Cooper.
This is what they wrote to me:

Chobe:
We have cams avaliable for the mini one and cooper cars. The cam for the cooper S is being developed at the moment.

The Cooper and One cam gives approx 10 BHP at the wheels.

The cost of these cams are £340.

That seems rather expensive to me. 10hp for $540 USD, I don't think so...

Speed costs money - don't think of it in terms of absolute hp increase but % increase

MINI Mania sells their performance camshaft for $695 ...

Regarding HP vs $$$... I would say a $500 single mod usually gets you approx. 5-10 HP added (this is "best case" result, however! Sometimes mods get you NO noticeable improvement.)

$540 for a guaranteed 10 HP is a good deal.

I agree. I doubt I'll get this but $500 for 10 hp (when you've only got 163) sounds like a good deal. i mean, we paid $3000 for a 48hp increase from the Cooper to the Cooper S. And if can add 10hp to the 115hp Cooper for $500 - I think price-wise it makes sense. I'm not an "add-on" type of guy so I doubt I'll do it anyway.

Replacing the camshaft is a pretty complicated "add-on" too!!

I found some instructions on how to do it, and while you don't need to remove the engine, you still need to put in some serious wrench time. Definitely should be left to a qualified mechanic. Not to mention that this blows the warranty...

If MINI offered for sale & installed a warrantied performance crankshaft (or lighter flywheel), I would consider it. Hopefully one of their certified aftermarket suppliers ( DINAN maybe?) will offer them in the near future. I don't think the JCW package includes one.
