EML, SES Lights, and Limp Mode, P1689 code
EML, SES Lights, and Limp Mode, P1689 code
Was driving my 06 MCSa in bumper to bumper traffic. Went to accelerate from a red light and not even near WOT The EML SES and limp mode happened. Made it off of the road, stopped the car and waited about 5 min. Restarted and EML light off but SES still on. Made it to a parts store and had code scanned. P1689 Electronic Throttle Control Monitor Level 2/3 Torque Calculation Error. The SES light is now off and seems to run normal. I have done some research on this P1689 code and have found the solutions run the gambit. From a bad battery, bypass valve, throttle body, MAP sensors, to software update. Anyone know where I should start? Should I even worry about it? I just don't want to throw parts and money on something that may not fix it. Any advise it helpful. Thanks in advance.
So I checked my battery today and lo and behold it was at 40% and would not hold a charge. How it started the car I don't know. I guess that the Mini really doesn't take much to start. I replaced it with an Optima 34r. Hope this cures this problem. Still not sure only time will tell. But of course while I was in there I found a new water leak. Time to figure this one out. ...
I know this happend 6 months ago but did the new battery fix the problem?my car went to a limp mode also on a traffic. my battery light and oil light plus SES went on but after restarting the car the lights went off.but I turn off the radio and got home safely.
I would definitely check your battery first. Most autoparts stores can do this for free. These cars do weird things when the battery starts to go. Changing out my battery cured this problem for me. I chose to go with an Optima red top. There are other options for batteries but I have had nothing but good experience with the Optima.
Battery would be the first thing and the terminals. Then after that check for an intake boot leak near the throttle body.

Yes, a battery can cause weird problems, but you may also have other things going on.
There isn't a true MAF sensor on these cars (they're speed density), so a leak pre throttle body isn't going to cause a problem.
