How can I make my shifts smoother?

I've had my 03 Mcs for 2 years now. The shifting is really rough and somewhat hard. Not as smooth as I would like it to. It's my first Mcs, so I don't know much. Is it supposed to be hard? Or does it need some sort of lubrication?

haha I think burble durble is a very interesting name! Definitely unique.

Would you describe the shifting as notchy? Is it the actual shifting motion of going from one gear to another? The notchy feeling is actually a common thing for people to describe. Here is a thread on NAM about it.

If it's not notchy and just super hard to get into gear, that may be a different issue. Does it happen all the time or just when the car is up at operating temperature? Any slipping of any kind? Spongy feel? Maybe check your shifter linkage and look for any leaks under the vehicle, it may only be slight so investigate closely. Some good suggestions at post #2 here. Let us know what you find.
