This past 2 weeks I have been hearing single knock sound after pushing the Start Button to turn off my Mini, it's longer in duration than your standard knocking/pinging from bad gas. Just 5 minute ago when I got home from work and parked my Mini it was the loudest it's ever been. I checked my plug last Saturday and there look good, checked gaps and there spot on.

It only happens sometimes and I can't reproduce it, it's never done this before.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

 

Scan for codes? Knock sensor going bad?

just some thoughts.

 

Could it be that simple? I just scanned for codes, none. Is this how a failing knock sensor behaves?

Alright I have found a way to reproduce the knock sound, it will only make the knocking sound when I'm parked on an incline, strange. In other words when I got home tonight and shut off the engine there was the knocking sound, the only way to reproduce the knock is I have to driving around the neighborhood, park on the incline to get another knock. If I restart the car after it has already knocked restarting a second time won't do it, I must drive around and come back for it to knock again.

I tried to take a video of it but the fan and engine drown the knocking sound, I can hear it though. I am unable to diagnose this knocking sound, no codes doesn't make it any easier.

This is weird!
