P2096 Fix ?

Took my 2002 MINI base model to BMW dealer with code P2096 They did various tests including smoke tests. The tech said smoke was coming from this hose (exhaust gas recirculating system through valve cover) because it was loose (not detached) he put a clamp on it. The other end of this hose exits in the air cleaner. Photo attached.

They told me they could not reset the adaptations (clear code) because they were not a MINI dealer. Cost me $125 + 3 hours of my time.

Did I get taken twice?

Dealer: Reliable BMW, Springfield, MO

P2096 code fix

I didn't recall this problem until I looked at the pic attached. My fix a day after having my MINI at the dealer;
that hose in the pic has a mate at the other end of the valve cover; without going out to the garage to check; as I recall that other hose has a small valve attached to the valve cover and then the hose.
I think it is called PCV or something. That other hose had a split (leak) and that was what caused the code. I installed a new hose with clamps. Code gone. Sent pic to dealer Service Manager with my solution.
Of course there was no attempt to refund or apologize!

Keep me posted.
The code problem is kinda like this: sucking air (oxygen) into crankcase then out the exhaust. So then the O2 sensor thinks that fuel ratio is not right. Kinda a false positive thing! As I understand why this code.

Do it’s a vacuum or exhaust leak for sure
