TPMS Malfunction

The Problem: 2013 R56 S, tire pressure monitoring system malfunction.

The car was fine, I washed it, I got in to move it back into the garage and the low tire light came on and was flashing. I tried to reset the monitoring system like usual but because it's a malfunction and not a low tire, it wouldn't let me. I will probably just take it to the dealer but posted the question because I wasn't sure if there are any fuzes that work the system that I could check? Or something similar. It seems strange that it would be fine and then immediately not fine without the car even moving more than 10 feet between the time when it was fine and started having the malfunction.

Any thoughts?

I've had my 2011 for less than a year and driven 7K miles, never had to reset the monitoring system. One thought maybe you got water somewhere into wiring, where it doesn't belong. Can you wait a day for things to dry out and test again? Otherwise no answer from me.

That's what I thought too. Plus, it's been below freezing here so I thought maybe something froze. It's been over a week to no avail, however. Thanks for the thoughts! It looks like I will be taking it in to the dealer.

A flashing TPMS light (versus a constant on light) means there is a malfunction with the system or a sensor.

Yeah that's the info I got, maybe dead battery or a problem with a sensor. Will be taking it to the dealer next week to have them sort it out.

Turns out it needed a new RDC module and also some wires were broken that ran from the bumper to under the sub frame.

Ineresting. I have a 2013 R55 and the couple of times I went to the high pressure carwash, the TPMS malfunction light came one, then off again. If it goes off by itself, is the code still stored? if it is, I'm taking it in to the dealer.

I don't think there are any codes that would be stored like with a check engine light. I say that because even if the problem goes away, the check engine light will stay on until codes are cleared or a drive cycle has been completed, but with the TPMS, it would come on and off sporadically. I would take it to the dealer if it is still under warranty because I had my car in an out in just a few hours (less if it weren't for those pesky broken wires)

Best of luck to you!

This has happened to me. Turned out, a couple of the tires were low on air. I think when I hit it with cold water, the pressure went down a bit, TPMS light came on. After driving a bit, light would go out as the tire heated up.
