Engine randomly dies

My wife's '07 (120K, base, 6 speed manual) has started to just randomly die. There doesn't seem to be any particular condition when it happens, sometimes just cruising on the freeway. When she pushes the start/stop button it immediately restarts and all is fine. It doesn't happen very often, sometimes several weeks go by. It leads me to believe it's electrical in nature as I don't think a fuel pump/clogged filter would behave (immediately relight) that way. There is no CEL and my scan tool shows no codes have been set. I tried wiggling the key fob while it was running and that didn't do anything. Has anybody had any issues with the Start/Stop button? I notice there are aftermarket replacements which is a usual sign that there is enough market for them to make them. Other than that guess I'm looking for a bad connection somewhere, oil pressure sender, ignition.

If anybody else has seen this I would appreciate what you found out.

Thanks

Its the original battery, so about 7 years (pretty good). The "eye" still shows green and it cranks the engine. Never had a no start situation. When I had the scan tool on, the Voltage Regulator Module was commanding 14.4 volts, pretty normal charge voltage. I would think the alternator would carry past an intermittent open or shorted cell.

7 yrs is about limit for a battery. Those battery eye windows are poor indication of actual battery health. Seen more than a fair share of them indicating green yet still require jumper cables to start the car...

I'm with everyone else responding, go ahead and replace the battery. Regardless of 'green eyes', it's WAY past it's prime. As another member stated, weird electrical problems arise on these car's with a marginal battery.
