I went to my local dealer and presented this issue to them (I just bought this R56 two days ago, first Mini) and the service rep took my key and looked at whatever that shows him, and determined that my fog lights are actually parking lights, and the computer is thinking that they are fog lights and aren't on, which somehow = $130 computer reprograming....

Anyone have any ideas of how to remedy this code showing up every time I start the car? Bc it's easy to ignore, but also makes the feature useless...

One obvious solution would be to install the lights. Does anyone have experience with installing OEM fog lights? If so, are they switched, and where does that switch run/is it already wired?

No, they are good. Everything is working. No doubts.

 

Can you post up a picture of your fog / parking lights? The only way this would be wrong is if the previous owner removed the fog lights or programmed it for fog lights (which is weird if there were no fog lights in the first place)

Yep they look like regular parking lights!

Trying looking up the options of your mini on BMWarchive this will list the options your car shipped with, you will need your VIN. It even does a nice rendering of what your car and dashboard look like!

Mine has the Chilli pack and I think it's part of that but look for:
S520A Nebelscheinwerfer and it will have: "Fog lights" on the right hand side if the car shipped with it.

 

Programming should fix issue. I don't think there's an easier fix.

 

Thanks for the replies. I used the link MiniMeep gave me and it didn't ship with the fog lights. I feel like I have a case for mini correcting it since they told me that it was programmed for fog lights and it clearly didn't ship with them...
