trans service question

guys,

i swapped the valve body in my aisin 6 speed trans because that seems to be the fix for the common hard shifting in the low gears, which is the problem my 05 s has. well, it was fixed for one day and went back to a very hard shift at up shift between 2-3.

i thought i had read that there was possible software upgrades for the transmission but when i spoke to the mini service department, they had never heard of such a thing.

did i read properly, is there the possibility of the software needing upgrading to help the trans shift smoother?

i have to take it in the 20th for them to look at. i would like to be able to show something in black and white showing that this can be done.

i am having to deal with mini cooper of san antonio which is two hours away so i would like to minimize the amount of trips i have to make to deal with this place.

Yes the earth is still functioning but sadly I haven't a clue how to help you. How is the weather where you are at?

Thank you for replying. I thought no one was reading any posts

The weather is very nice here, mid 70s with slight overcast skies and very little wind.

I have so little knowledge about the auto trans other than MINI says they don't require fluid/filter changes ... (I think this is ... well retarded).

Miss Susan (my neighbor) has a 2007 R52 Auto, and has had her favorite tech reset Trans Mapping a few times to keep up with the strange behavior as it gets older. Hers has about 100K miles and still no fluid/filter change.

Best of luck.

Motor on!

We are going to do that trans reset tomorrow and see what the next closest mini dealer tells us about the software.

The wife really wants to be able to fix this because she said this is her favorite car of all the cars she has had (mustangs, Cherokee, gran Cherokee, wranglers, four door wrangler, liberty, 325is, 318is, and then this cooper)

And the life time fluid deal, I think that is an oddball deal. I don't know if it was ever changed before we bought it but we did the filter and fluid already.

The asin tranny is basicly the same unit used on many Toyota, VW, Audi and some Honda's....all have fluid changes....so lifetime was more for marketing IMO...
So I'd do a fluid change...many have used, and suggest Toyota auto tranny fluid (on the mini)...have had several toyo techs say it is different...the friction modifier... And it does make a huge difference on a toyo..hard shifts as opposed to butter soft with the asin units....

Hmm, Toyota fluid, eh? Hmm, sounds interesting. I will start googling it.

Thanks
