Radiator fan starting even when engine cold
Radiator fan starting even when engine cold
Hey guys getting through my issues one at a time. The main issue I am having now is the radiator fan staying on as soon as I start, and stays on for the whole journey.
I can start the car first thing in the morning temps cold, and the fan kicks in stage 2 within seconds. Obviously fuel consumption is terrible.
Amongst other codes I am getting a system too rich at idle bank 1 p2188
I can not find any vacuum leaks for the life of me.
The temperature stays around 78c cause of the stage 2 fan. I disconnected the fan, and the temp rises to 105-106c, which was the normal temp it ran at. All the pipes are feel hot if I touch them.
I am not sure if this is a faulty temp sensor, cause when the fan is disconnected it climbs to 106.
Had all codes cleared nothing to do with temp sensor. Could this be bad adaptations, that were saved in the ECM from when the vacuum pipes were put wrong, and the car was misfiring like crazy?
Swapped relays same thing, pulled one relay and it kicks down to stage 1 fan. I can hear the relays clicking away like crazy when I first start in the morning.

Ok I figured this out you would never have guessed it. But managed to find a similar problem in another forum on a BMW.
It was a faulty high pressure sensor for the aircon, which basically made it seem like the aircon was on or something of that nature. And kicked the fan into stage 2.
I pulled the plug to the sensor, and it stopped the fan. Got all error codes cleared and plugged it back in and all is fine the fan is off...
