Noisy clicking after parking

Hi all,

I've got a new MCS (no mods) with about 3k miles on it. Lately it is beginning to make a clicking/tapping noise from underneath the car coming from slightly behind the right front wheel and towards the centre after I park. It sounds like a problem with the heat shield, but I was wondering if anyone had some similar experiences or comments.

It would make sense if it was the heat shield, because I think every car I've owned has had those issues at one point or another. Charlie is just making himself at home.

Mine does it after 16k. Most likely heat/contraction/metal expansion/etc.

It hasn't detonated....yet.

Mine use to tap a lot when new too....noticed it even while at a stop light.
So did my other cars, so did not think too much of it. My MCS has about 12k miles and healthy.

I've noticed this, too. I have an 04 MCS with 7200 on it. It clicks from the passenger side at a stop and after I've parked. I assume it's just a heat shield expanding/contracting and not really any issue.

Same here. Right after I've parked it.

Sounds like hot metal cooling down. Maybe heatshield, maybe exhaust, maybe brake components. They all do it.

It's the alignment of the heat shields on it's mounting bolts under the muffler and exhaust pipes. It is easily fixable under warranty. Just take it in. I did and it's quiet now!

It may be all the stainless steel used in the exhaust system and the heat shields under the car. SS has a high coff. of expansion and "grows" as it heats up then makes a racket as it shrinks back down. BTW if you haven't put you MINI on a lift and walked under it yet they're pretty cool on the underside too!!...........mgg
