How to adjust bonnet release
How to adjust bonnet release
2004 MCS, 140K. Frequently the passenger side of the bonnet release does not disengage. How do I adjust it?

First check you two release catches, are they clean and lubricated? Over time the lubrication becomes hard and gunkie filled with contamination, a couple of seconds under the a high pressure blast from a car wash wand will clean it up nicely then lubricate with something like White Grease or Permatex SuperLube. Things like WD40 really work better as a cleaner (WD = Water Displacement) than a long term lubricant for hinges and latches.
OK, That being said... the cable itself really wasn't designed to be adjustable, if the cable has stretched from time and use, then the options are...Replace the cable or... you can get a small thick washer and using a hacksaw cut a slot though one side of the washer then ... (here comes the fiddly bit) place the modified washer on the cable between the cable end lug and the Pull to Release handle tab.
NOTE: Multiple modified washers can be inserted to reduce cable slack.
Best of luck.
Motor on!

One of your latches are stuck on the cable will not slide inside the sleeve. You have to keep them sprayed with WD 40 at the end pointing towards the grille as well as those latches.
We have replacement latches and kits here. If the cable snaps its a pain to open the hood.
