SOLVED: 2011 R56 won't turn over!

This morning I replaced front brake pads and a rear pad wear sensor that's throwing off a CC-ID 071. Afterwards, I tried to reset the service lights, following instructions stickied on this sub-forum.

I started the car and it started fine. But when the codes came back, I decided to go through the reset procedure again. Then, I tried to start the car again, but this time the engine didn't turn, lights flashed on and off and I heard "tick, tick, tick, tick..."

In addition to the CC-ID 071, CC-ID 275 also popped up all of a sudden.

What happened? I didn't even touch anything in the engine compartment?

EDIT: It was the battery. Replaced it even though the sight gauge is black, which means recharge, and Autozone confirms the it's bad.

I'm fortunate that it went out while I was working on it in the garage instead of in the middle of nowhere. But I'm still curious as to what have caused it to discharge.

MINI batteries can be disappointing. There have been many threads on here where folks work on their cars and have the problem you have. Put a charger on the battery for a few hours and then give it another try.

I was thinking the same, battery. Being a 2011 I'd bet it's the original battery? I would consider replacing it as it's close to EOL..

OK. Removed the battery so that I can get a better view of the sight gauge. It is black, which means charge. Should I recharge or replace?

Thanks for the replies!

While you have it out, take to an Autozone or equivalent and get it load tested. Here in hot AZ, once my battery hits 4 years, I just go ahead and replace it. I hate getting stranded..
