Vibration while excelerating help!!

I have an 05 cooper s , everything ran smooth until I installed my coilovers and dropped the ride hieght down a lot , iv heard it's most likey bad cv axles , but I do not see and torn boots and they ran smooth before , another thing I'm considering is when I put the coilovers on a 5mm spacer was in need to make my stock wheels clear the spring , however with the 5mm spacer my tire still barley touches the spring , I'm not sure if that would cause a vibration , and also the spacer was not hubcentric but there was enough hub left for the wheel to sit on, any help would be greatly appreciated before I go out and buy parts I don't need , thanks in advance!

We need more specifics:

What spaced brand
What coil over brand
How far did you drop it?

FYI yes anything that touches a wheel moving at X RPMs is going to cause noise and vibration. If it's just barely touching when not moving what do you think is happening at speed? Lots of movement---suspensions move around a lot more than you think they do.

Very basic first step raise it up 1/2" and get it off the tire. Don't drive around like that - if you wear through the sidewall...you are going to blow out the tire. You can patch that.

Or raise your engine a bit. If your motor mount has leaked out, change it. That'll help a bit.

Don't forget that an alignment is needed after altering the ride height.

2.5" is quite extreme. By going that low you will be sacrificing ride quality.

+1 this height is not drive able...you need some serious camber correction etc to be doing this and at -2.5" ride height you have probably less than an inch of ground clearance...maybe 1.5" maximum.

Tucking tire much?

That being said it probably looks AWESOME yet unusable. Pics for clicks

I had this issue on my car. Turned out the ride height was set too low. Raise the car a good amount and see if it drives any different. If that helps, raise it until they no longer vibrate. If you don't, you may start to break axles.

I just did this today acually and yes the vibration went away , but I think if I replace the cv axels it should go away right? I should be able to have the car at that ride hieght that I do now and it shouldn't do that still I think with new cv axels

Lowering the car significantly changes the CV angle. The shaft becomes too long. It's unconventional, but raising the engine to let CV angle stay close to stock is how some do it.

I suppose you could try beefier axles. WMW sells some!

http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-race-axle.html

Replacing them with OEM or remanufactured axles will not help. You might get a few thousand miles out of them before you run into the same issue. I'm under the impression that you would like to lower your car for aesthetic purposes. I can assure you a proper functional ride height will make you much happier motorist.

Is there any mouths that will sit my engine up higher for what I need? Or is it kind of a retrofit kinda deal

I can't seem to find any engine mount spacers or anything of the sort online. Perhaps someone else might be able to shed some light on that topic. You could try getting a quote on custom axles that fit properly however that might be pricey.

Quit being a little b$$$$ and just get air ride :-) you are going to spend the same amount in replacement axles and tires anyhow.

Facelift R53 Engine mount spacer:
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/220863901278...d=684024448718

Fiddling w/ engine mounts & alignment takes trial & error on how vibrations go. I had a lil but once I swapped a new mount in, vibration was nowhere to be felt.
Here's how my old compared to new looked:

How much are they? The cheap aftermarket ones never last.

Check Jan's over at RMW. He might be able to give you a better deal. He stopped using those from Driveshaft Shop sometime ago & built their own.

So air ride would have been about $2k and instead you are going to spend $1650 on coils and axles?....I still think you are going to face serious drive-ability issues even if you resolve the axle situation.

I'm not trying to ride you but this seems like the wrong path....do you think anyone would notice .3-.5 inches higher so the car is workable?
