Routine inspections led me to look at a oil leak that has started on the right side if the oil pan.

Pictures are aft looking forward and up at the oil pan right side area.

I suspect that's the oil pump unloading solenoid?

12 MCS-m with 52000km on it.

yes. it's a common problem for 2011+

 

Ditto. I just had my '12 replaced under warranty. The also replace the wire harness..

 

Does it hurt the engine when the solenoid control system fails? (due to module failure/ wicked oil)

 

Yep, that's it. Mine is leaking too. Apparently it's not the solenoid that fails, it's the whole DME and wiring harness due to oil wicking into it and causing strange problems.

 

I have a 13 jcw roadster with the same leak. What is the repair? I see a gasket ring and a cover plate where the wires exit the block that are available from mini.

 

I just had this repair done on a '11 R56 MCS. Job called for four parts.
