Buzzing sound from under my MINI!

Just wanting some thoughts. My MINI has had a buzzing, tinny sound from under the car for several thousand miles now. When in for it's 1st check up, the dealer "could not duplicate the sound". Well, I'm tired of Louie sounding like a beehive so I plan on taking it in this week & I will gladly duplicate the sound for them. I think it's a heat shield(my 94 Altima made the same sound & that was the problem). Any other thoughts from all of you??

Thanks,
Lois

Do you get the tinny buzzing whenever the engine is running or only when the car is rolling?

Either it's shift cables buzzing against a heatshield or a bee in your bonnet.
I vote the former It's been reported before and reportedly a simple warrantied fix.

Bodinski beat me to it! My Grandma used the expression "you've got a bee in your bonnet."

Sorry I can't help with the real buzzing sound. It's very difficult to troubleshoot noises and vibrations over the internet. If it sounds like a heat shield then it must be more of a ringing buzz sound. If you can get the sound to duplicate, you just need to start feeling around until you touch something that makes it stop. I guess it goes without saying that you need to be careful because there are lots of hot and moving parts under there.

Good luck,

The buzzing occurs at about 2500 rpms-standing still & rolling. I checked the bonnet-NO BEES Thanks for the input.

The bees in my bonnet are gone. I took Louie to the service department this morning & in the time it took to buy a t-shirt, the buzzing was found & fixed. It turned out to be a loose connection at the catalytic converter. My MINI is so quiet now all I hear is the whining of the power steering

Good news, Lois! I love that dolphin-esque sound of the power-steering, don't you?
