High Pressure Fuel Pump, MINI wont replace mine!

My wife drives a 2009 Cooper S, with only 45k miles, and it developed a fuel pump problem. I called mini to ask about the extended warranty and to schedule a time to bring it in. They told me since my car is out of warranty, that the extended warranty on the pump doesn't matter.

Has anyone else dealt with mini not covering their extended warranties for this, and how have you dealt with it?

Any help is appreciated.

I think that the extended warranty applies to a replacement High Pressure Fuel Pump, not the original pump. So, if your car has it's original pump, you are out of luck.

It's covered 8 or 10 years I can't remember, or up to 120k miles.

Good luck! They didn't cover mine cause MINI USA said my part isn't in the system like the other MINIs...hahah a bunch of idiots. Glad I got the job done by a good shop in Detroit Tuned.

That doesn't make any sense.

You are talking about the high pressure fuel pump, correct? If so and your MINI was one of those specified, the warranty on that part is 10 years/120,000 miles. I got mine replaced at 117,000 miles, so clearly the regular warranty has no bearing.

Maybe escalate the issue with the dealership. If no luck, contact MINI USA.

I did call mini USA, after my dealer denied me, and they are the ones who told me they won't cover it.

I feel like I am being seriously dicked around right now.

Sure it does, think about it. If the old design craps out under warranty, they replace it with a new improved pump. That new improved pump would have an extended warranty, not the old pump that was poorly designed.

Usually parts replaced under warranty are guaranteed for an additional two years.

I could be wrong.

Right, but if mine was never replaced, then why wouldn't it be covered?

Any possibility the hpfp was already replaced under warranty and the replacement is now outside of the 2 year replacement part warranty?

Sounds like another call back to MINI USA may be in order.

Is the OP speaking about the HPFP or the regular pump in the tank? I think the 'regular' pump is not part of the extended warranty but the HPFP is.

the low pressure pump is not warrantied, high pressure is(regardless of your car's warranty status).

dealer has replaced my hpfp twice all for free

You are wrong dave, you don't make any sense.

I receive a letter from Mini USA stating that they have extended the warranty on the high pressure fuel pump because of a massive number of HPFP failures (10 years/150k), exception is if you originally had it replaced under warranty mini will not cover it just like they will not cover the timing chain if done under warranty.

Mini will only cover the original high pressure fuel pump and the original timing chain.

Waste of time talk to mini

Mini denied 2 times to replace the faulty high pressure pumps. Car had about 80k miles. the warranty covers 120k miles. Mini is fun when it is not broke. However, it breaks 90 percentage time here or there. The cost of ownership will be 100% on top of what you paid. I will never go back to mini again.

What year car did you have? The HPFP warranty only covers 07-09 cars, even though the 10's used the same pump they deny coverage to 2010 owners.
