Door unlocks and rolls down window by itself?

Hello everyone,

Long time lurker here. I've been trying to solve this problem I am having with my 2003 R50. Very randomly (usually after using the key fob) my door would rapidly unlock itself repeatedly and in consequence roll down my windows and sunroof. I've been trying to look around for a solution on multiple forums but everyone has been accusing the owner for 'accidentally' pressing the unlock button. I can assure you this is not the problem.

I decided to open my door panel and unplug the door lock actuator. Problem gone. However, I can't use the key fob to unlock the driver side door any more.

Has anyone experienced this problem or know what part I need to replace? Thanks!

I've experienced a somewhat similar problem a few years back in another vehicle (non-MINI) with an occasional unexpected unlocking of the trunk. It occurred only with my remote, not my wife's. When the dealer took the fob apart, they said something apparently was spilled on it, and the fob button contact didn't release cleanly. They cleaned the fob push contact with some denatured alcohol, put in a new battery (it was several years old) and I didn't experience the problem again.

Don't know if this could be your problem, but you could test if this occurs only with one fob in proximity to your MINI (and not the other). Put your fob somewhere beyond the transmit range and use the other fob for a while. If the problem doesn't continue, the problem is more likely in your fob.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like your remote unlock button is sticking. Take it apart and see if there is any wet crud in there. I am betting....

Yeah, sounds like your BC1/Body Control Module is the issue. Common cause is water contamination.

Thanks for the replies guys. The remote is fine since it still unlocks the rest of the car normally. It also still rolls down the windows properly with the remote too. So it can't be the remote.

My battery is OEM and almost new too. Just replaced.

I'm leaning toward this BCM.. can this be a DIY? Or am I stuck with a trip to the dealer?

EDIT: Looks like a trip to the dealer.. :( Anyone else have any other possible malfunctions they can think of?

Unlocking and Locking

I have a problem with mine as well. It's not the FOB. In the driveway with no key it will lock and unlock it self and flashes the lights. I read on another Forum about a wire rubbing a cable (didn't say what cable), just a thought. I need to fix this ASAP! A free package of Anchor Steamship Ale to the one that solves this mystery! AL.

On my R55, If you hold the unlock button down for 5 seconds, the doors will unlock, the windows will roll down and the sunroof will open to vent position. Maybe the R50 has a similar feature. The open button contacts could be sticking, activating this feature.

This problem keeps changing, now the doors not lock with the FOP but will lock. I'm seeing another problem that may be related, the passenger side window will not go down and doesn't retract when the door is opened. The battery was nearly dead this morning because the door continuing to lock and flashing the lights. I'm a fleet mechanic and do not have the trouble chart for this one, HELP!!

The 5 second unlock button feature works fine still. It's definitely not sticking since you can hear the individual unlocks when the door lock is still connected. I feel like its not a BCM problem but something in the door panel.
