Tachometer display not working - no odometer reading
The odometer display and temperature display windows just went blank on my 2009 MCS. The turn signals, high beam indicator icons etc above the window where the temperature normally is displayed all work. The icons illuminate normally on startup. Just the 2 display windows are completely dark. Otherwise car runs fine. Any ideas before i schedule a service appointment? Thanks!

My favorite card to play on the guess my electrical problem game is the Dead and/or Dying Battery Card.
I have a 2009 as well, and I'm constantly paranoid of the odd or unusual quirk or sound, wondering if it is time for a new battery.
Keep us posted.
P.S. They always say go to Auto Zone or O'Reilly's and have them check the voltage and amps.

Sorry to bring an old topic back from the dead but I can't find anything else on this.
mochi, did this ever happen to you again?
The exact same thing has happened to me half a dozen times in the last 10 months ('09 Cooper S). It's happens at random times, first start up in the morning, restarting after a long trip, restarting after a short trip and it's happened in every season (so every temperature).
If I leave the car for an hour or so (or overnight) it's returns to normal. I guess it could be a sign of a weak battery but it shows no weakness even when starting at -30C (nor does it explain the problem happening in Summer or after a long drive).
I've never took it into the shop because I know I'll get a 'can't reproduce the problem' response.
Just thought I'd chime in.

My '09 S still did this up until recently when I traded it in. In the two and a half years I owned the car it blanked out about 20 times.
I mentioned it to my dealer once and they said unless it's doing it at the time my car comes in they can't investigate it. They said it MIGHT be my battery but they wanted an hours diagnosis fee to test the battery. I declined. I never, ever had any signs of a weak battery during my ownership.
The only time the tacho never blanked out was during late Spring / Summer / early fall when the weather was warm.
