Just made a service appointment concerning 2nd gear. Every other gear is smooth and quiet, but 2nd sounds (loudly) clunky. No real problems (yet) in shifting, but I want to be sure it's not an indication of a real problem. Unfortunately I have a hard tiem getting out of work during the week, so to get a Saturday I have to wait till June 26! Oh well. Still under warrenty so if it goes it goes...

Anyone else had issues along these lines?

Yes. Been there since new. 12,000 mi later, still there. Dealer has checked it twice, says nothing wrong. Allrighty then. I'll just keep flogging it.

It is better if you shift slower than normal (slight pause between gears) at least mine is. I'm going to try redline fluid next. This has always made my other cars shift like butter.

I've seen threads on this before. The general consensus is [bill gates] It's not a bug, it's a feature! [/bill gates].
Mine's done it since day one.

I have never seen this problem, can you describe the clunkyness a little more?

Actual shifting feels no different, but you can hear it distinctly even with the windows rolled up. For mine it only seems to happen when sifting to 2nd gear from another gear that was engaged. Shifting out of 2nd and back to 2nd is smooth and quiet. Shifting from 2nd to 1st or 3rd, but not releasing the clutch, and then back to 2nd is quiet.

Honestly, the sound is no different than any other transmission I have heard. I got concerned because none of the other gears exhibit this sound.

My service advisor has told me that the sound occurs in all gears. The reason you don't hear it while shifting in the other gears is either that the engine is too loud or the car is moving too fast for you to hear it. It makes since, I guess, since when I hear it most is during a slow moving shift. Basically, nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks Sketch. Will probably cancel my service appointment, but might not. Can't hurt to be sure.
