Backfire while idling?

I have a 2010 hatchback.

After driving mini to my gym, I will often park with engine running for a few minutes while I check emails, etc., and the car seems to be backfiring or something. The sound is like a gentle, soft backfire and it does it intermittently, say approximately every 10 seconds or so, until the car is turned off. Any one familiar with this phenomenon?

To clarify, not sure it's backfiring, it's just kinda what it sounds like.

Probably your "burble".

The 2010s do not burble (at least not by programming). The idle does 'hunt' a bit though the tach doesn't show it. Sounds similar to what you describe.

Had a similar problem in my 2013 MCS, turned out to be a defective spark plug.

Thanks for your replies. I'll have it checked when I take it in for service next time. Car seems to be running fine otherwise.

is it a POP sound coming from the center of the car or back of it? every 10 seconds? it's the fuel tank releasing pressure. I've sat idling and hear a weird pop noise in the rear before and determined by researching it was pressure relief from the fuel tank.
