Throw shifter cable broke
So today when I was pulling out of the gas station my cars shifter went limp. I could move it back and forward like floppy flop... But couldn't go side to side. However she was still in gear. I finally got to an oriellys and borrowed some tools, took the exhaust off and got under her and found the linkage joints still attached to the shifter. A few seconds later of investigating I found out that my throw cable was ripped at the steel braid. And the plastic shroud was busted where it clips and so it was just laying in there. I wanted to know if it was a fairly simple install on the shifter cable. I have installed turbo kits, heads, cams, done timing, clutches and lots of things but never messed with a car that had a cheap plastic shroud around a cable holding it in place. Is this fairly easy to break if the lightest tug in the wrong direction? Just want to make sure as well that this is doable without a car lift. And just around 16" of clearance under the car. Also, is the linkage that grabs the ball on the bottom of the shifter the "left" linkage? Do I need to replace both cables or just one? Thank you in advance!!!!
P.s.
Pics from the sad tow. :( last time she was towed was when I first bought her. I had her towed to the dealership for a new immobilizer. Funny thing is that it was exactly a year ago from today!!!
