Coolant leak help
Coolant leak help
I have a 2009 JCW clubman approx 75k miles, coolant leak is coming from the driver side, more coolant leaks out when engine is reved. I know not the best pic but someone might be able to tell me where its coming from and the fix. Thanks

leak seams to be coming from where the two pieces meet, i believe theres a gasket between the shinier piece meets the other

That looks to me like your starter, but it is tough to tell with little reference. I would guess a thermostat housing as the source of your leak. this is a common area where the coolant will leak from. You can do a search here on NAM and find plenty of other threads about this problem.
Also, how much coolant are you losing?

Yea that's most likely the thermostat housing and leaking down the backside of the engine. It might be leaking lower on the backside of the housing so its either pooling on the transmission and falling off the back, or following the seam on the lower half of the thermostat housing and fall down.
Here is a link where it is discussed:

With that you can check for other locations that would have them also look at.
Thanks and good luck .

Thermostat housing is on the passenger side. Water pump is on the driver side. There is a plastic pipe that hoses from the metal water pump housing that is right above the starter. It has a small O ring on it. Most likely either the O ring is leaking or the pipe itself is cracked (which is what happened with mine). The plastic becomes brittle and that leads to failures. Really poor design if you ask me.
Never mind what I said. I'm obviously dyslexic from lack if sleep. I had the sides switched in my head. Water pump is in passenger side, thermostat is on driver side.

Thanks Jeeper42, we also have some kits that have the hardware like the thermostat kit above.
