My 2008 cooper s has a sunroof that will not open more than a crack. the left front does not rise with the other corners. I heard a 'pop' when I was driving on two occasions. Not sure if it was related. Shop says only thing to do is replace the entire thing, roof cartridge, for about $2500. Anybody else have similar issues?

I had a similar issues on my '08 MCS that was traced to deformed sunroof seal. Specifically, when car was left under the sun, the sun roof would not open. At best, it would rise a bit into "vent" mode, or rise and half way before quitting. After the roof cooled down, it would start working again.

This was the last repair done under warranty, and the dealer replaced the seal part #54-10-7-210-652. Accompanying notes read: "Roof sticking and jammed as per SI 540308; removed glass, cleaned and lube complete sunroof cassette; replaced damaged perimeter seal and installed glass; adjusted to spec."
