I'm not really willing to disclose the dealership because I'm a tech there and I'm not sure if I could get in trouble for telling you guys about the campaign coming. I don't care if you believe me or not but it would behoove you to talk to your dealer about good willing any type of timing chain related issue because a campaign is in the works.

I was informed of a campaign being launched, by a different bmw tech, obviously I cant mention names for obvious reasons, but there is a campaign. there is a SIB, most likely internal. But as far as secondary non specific proof, mini told the dealers to good will them but recently stopped in regards to the new campaign coming out. If and when you do get a timing chain replacement just make sure to get the measurements of slack and specific details on the receipt.

Just a little update, I had my work performed on Monday, no mention of any type of campaign, TSB or otherwise.

I do trust my local dealer, so we shall see how it all goes in the next few months.

The folks who are talking campaign and TSB, you don't have to disclose your source, if you have facts, publish the campaign number or TSB number, if they are real.

Yes, I have doubts.

Don

All we are asking for is the dealership name not the tech's name. This is a major issue for Mini so I would like to find out some facts. I can't believe Mini runs their company like this. Very disappointed with the quality of the car and the dealer/company service.

I recently found out from my SA that MINI is extending the warranty of the timing chain just like how MINI extended the warranty for the HPFP. I don't know many details beyond that but the campaign/recall is beginning and you should contact your dealer now.

Are they extending the warranty of the timing chain to 100k or 10 years? Beside the HPFP what else has been extended?

Funny story, myself and a friend at work both bought secondhand cars at the same time. We got to talking about our purchases, his reason for buying another car was because his timing belt had failed and he was happy to know that his current car had a timing chain which was god for the life of the car. I'm like yeah my cars got a timing chain too so no worries for me either. Of course now I know better and too embarrassed to tell him the truth. By the way I paid 10k more and his car is a Hyundai.

Okay for anyone who has read this thread, I pinpointed the issue to the vacuum pump. After reviewing a lot of videos online, and talking to the dealer, I am pretty sure it is the typical vacuum pump noise that you can hear at times.

These engines make so many sounds that for a new owner, things get confusing!

Thanks!

This is exactly what the dealer wrote on my work order after replacing the TC per "recall". Bits of plastic had to come out of the pan. There werent any rattling symptoms prior to this...just FYI. However, I sure am glad the work was done. The TC and guide were really jacked up.
