chain timing problem.

hi.

i'm new on forum and i just bought a mini cooper, i'm from rio de janeiro, so pardon me for my bad english, and i think i posted in wrong forum before, pardon again.

i have searched here and on youtube for the death rattle problem, but i cant distinguish between the normal sound the death sound.

i think my cooper has the problem, it makes a diesel engine sound, dealer here doesnt know that mini has that problem.

please, can you guys check my video bellow and tell me if i have chain problem? it was the first startup in the morning, 24C, my cooper S 2009 has 17k miles or 27k km.

thanks in advance.

To me, it's not bad at all. The N14 engine is loud at startup. Ones that have a very bad timing chain system sound like an extremely loud clacking diesel engine. You can hear the timing chain slapping on the guides very loud. Yours is not doing that.

hi country, hi drew.

thanks for the help and the replies.

for you guys my engine is normal then? i'm not used to it yet, bought the car 1 week ago and kept going to mechanics and dealers to find out if that loud sound is normal, but here in rio i cant find a good mechanic for that car.

the zuuuuum (0:09-0:35) in the start of the video is the fuel pump?

thank you.

The N14 is a noisy engine. I wouldn't worry about the sound.

Couldn't really hear the sound you were talking about, but anytime you press the unlock button on the remote, if the car has been sitting for a while the fuel pump will prime the fuel system.

Thanks for asking this question and posting the video! I'm also relatively new to MINI and NAM and have been wondering the same thing after reading all these death-rattle threads.
