Clutch Issue

Good Morning! I have an '04 JCW S that is experiencing a problem. When I let out the clutch, the car moves almost instantly (there is very little travel). Also, it is sometimes difficult to shift into a gear. The brakes feel a little mushy, and I understand that the two systems are linked, so I was thinking that it could be air in the system? The car is drivable, but I know that it should be better. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! -AJ

The two systems only share the fluid reservoir. The difficulty in shifting does sound like insufficient fluid pressure either due to air or a weak master or slave cylinder. Any strange noise from the clutch/throw out bearing?
How many miles on the car and what has been replaced? I just did a clutch job on my 02 MCS at 158K.
