When your engine is cold where does the coolant level sit at in the coolant resevoir? Check that first.

But otherwise, try to avoid blasting your AC when you're at a dead stop in the heat of summer. That is the worst possible condition for a car's cooling system. The MINI runs a bit hotter than most cars as it is so don't push it.

It was only 70 out and my ac wasn't blowing that cold when stopped . I wish it had a temp gauge and not just the light.

Thought running the a/c on max actually helped with cooling?
But definitely check the coolant level, then the thermostat.

What helps is if you run the heater... The heater is essentially an extention of the cooling system, so turning that on increases the heat exchange rate (like a secondary radiator).

But do check the coolant level. The plastic water pumps tend to crack around the shaft and drip coolant.

Ah that makes sense. 70 degrees is not extreme

Glad you found the problem and it was not the head or something worse. Also make sense, the fan just locked up and then when stuck in traffic peaked the temp warning light, because you could not cool the additional heat. How long was it hot for?

Was this on a Clubman "base" or justa? Fits all R56+ Base models. If so we had them here.

Thanks

It was only hot for a moment as soon as it went hot I pulled right over and **** it down. It's a clubman base.
