Attaching engine hoist to engine for pull

Just a quick question..

I'm on the verge of pulling my motor and transmission out of my '03 r50. I've disconnected everything except for the three motor mounts (and the axles, and still need to drain the transmission). When I pulled the motor I bought off of my truck bed I attached the hoist's chains to two 12x65 bolts set into the passenger side mount holes and one chain hook through where the starter passes through the block's flange. Lifting it this way puts it at a weird angle in the air and it was hard to get it onto the engine stand (and dumped about 4 qts of oil on my floor). I've seen it written that the three long studs on the valve cover (one by passenger side mount and two behind the oil fill port) are where you're supposed to attach to, but those just seem so small to me. Especially if I'm going to be pulling the engine and transmission out at the same time (they're only about as thick as a pencil). I've considered using the same mount holes on the passenger side and one of the ones on top of the transmission, but then I'd have to almost completely disconnect the motor from the car before I hook it up to the hoist.. and that seems like a bad idea, just the one lower mount holding it all.. I'm considering hooking up my cross bar support on top and a jack on the bottom to support it while I hook up to the motor mount holes.. but then I've still got the same issue with the motor being at such an odd angle when I'm trying to get it onto the engine stand after I've separated it from the transmission.

Am I missing something? I'm planning on pulling it out tonight after work and I'm kind of nervous about it. with any luck I'll have the accessories switched over on saturday, new motor back in on sunday, rest of the front end put together during the week, fluids in next saturday and after that I ought to be good to go! (man, I miss this car. poor things been dead in my garage for almost a year now)
