Bonnet closed..Broken release..Any answers???

2010 MINI..
The Bonnet is closed and the release broke. Does ANYONE have an answer without it being...Take it to the shop.
The Car is out of warranty. Its a base MINI. I needed to open the hood to change out the scuttles.

Has ANYONE fixed this issue? Or have any answers?

I have searching all day for an answer. Someone must have worked through this problem.

I am sorry if I sound a bit miffed but it is VERY FRUSTRATING.

Thank you for hearing my rant!
Bob

When a cable breaks it usually breaks at the cabin end of the cable and not the engine side. If you look underneath the dash you should be able to see the broken end. Grab a hold with a pair of pliers and pull the end, the bonnet should pop.

Remove the right inner fender liner and you can then get to the hood release. In most cases the cable comes loose from the locking mechanism. If that is the case, you can reattach it after you get the hood open. Add a tie strap to the end of the cable housing to hold it in place just in case it comes loose again.

There is a relatively simple fix, I'm sorry I don't know exactly what it is. This happened to me shortly after a dealer visit (same day) and I took it back and they had it fixed in 5 minutes. IF the 55 is like the 56, there is a cable junction box on the drivers side top support. I believe that is where mine popped out from. Removing the drivers side fender liner will allow you access to it and the cables running to the latch. Good luck.

Here is the diagram:

Since its not the interior latch, check between #11 and #8 & #8 and #1 the locking latches.

Same part number for the R55 and R56. And let me know what you find out or if you need anything.

Thanks

My cable broke right where it goes into #4 on above diagram. Any suggestions on how to pop that passenger side latch from underneath the car.

not fun

I just had this happen on my R53 and had to take the tire and wheel well off on the drivers side, after that ot was super easy to pull the release myself.
