What kind of coolant did you use? You can't mix coolant types.

Is there a BMW dealer near by? BMW and MINI use the same coolant so you can get the coolant from a BMW dealer as well.

Do you have a trusted independent mechanic near by? They can pressure test the system for a leak.

So what your saying is my coolant might not be low? I drove it for about an 1.5 hours on a mini road trip yesterday and it never got above 224 on the water temp. It seems to be running fine but I might have it towed in just to make sure

if you originally had air pockets or were low on coolant, adding to the res tank 1 time may not be enough, as the system is taking in that coolant it needs. sometimes it takes a couple days to burp itself.

Hopefully you got our issues burped out... I have a question on your numbers though, is the 220-224 range normal for these cars? Seems hot to me, but I'm still getting used to the MINI way of doing things. I hooked up my Ultra Gauge, so have been monitoring temps and seem to settle in at that range as well.

I have heard they run on the hotter side of known normals for petrol vehicles. Jeeps as well, with the I-6 back in the day run 210

Right on thanks, so you know what I'm talking about. In the land cruiser world where I hang out mostly 210-213 is normal, at 224 the AC shuts off, and by 230 you're pulling over, hoping your head is still flat. I'm going to flip through the Bently manual tonight, hope to find some more definitive numbers....

QFT.

Glad to see proper information being posted on these boards. As of late it seems there is allot of misinformation going around here.
