I had the engine light on my speedometer come on in "yellow". This is on a 2008 Mini Cooper base model.The garage retreived a code that said "Vanos exhaust actuator movement". The light has now turned itself off. Is there an explanation or definition to what this code means? The car drives and drove fine with no issues,but, I don't want anything serious to happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How's your oil level? Vanos faults usually come up if you're low on oil

 

After reading other threads about this, it turns out to be a dirty solenoid and it also happens after a timing belt change which I had done in conjunction with a new water pump. Its ties into the belt tensioner.

Thanks for the suggestion. My oil was changed recently and checked out fine.
