well as no suprise to me, my cooper s is smoking at start up, ohh the insanity of it all, onley on cold starts their is a small puff of blue smoke and sumtimes when i drive off thir is a trail for a split second then its gone for the day, also when accelerating hard with freinds behind me their is no smoke just at cold startups thats all,

now me and ryan have come to the conclution that it could be oil pooling at the valves from build up in the intake system and entering the combution chamber but i think its insane to have worn rings and or valves noe in the game the oil has been replaced all the time before the limit but as all minis should it is driven briskley the car has 60,000 miles on it and all but what do you guys think

would i need a oil catch can or something let me know what could be a possible cause if anyone has any ideas.....

How many miles? Have you looked inside your IC?
edit: Sorry, do you really have 60k miles? or 6k miles?

Yes, he has 60k on his '02 MCS. We haven't looked in his IC yet to see the state of affairs.

The last time I had that much smoke was when I wrapped by exhaust header from stem to stern and it caught fire. I've trimmed back the wrap since then so they are off beyond the first O2 sensor. Now, it's much better plus I don't need a fire engine to trail me around or worry about creating forrest fires.
