I have searched everywhere for this information to no avail. I was wondering what the compression ratio for the naturally aspirated 1.6 L Cooper engine is. I am guessing it is quite high duer to the fact that you must run premium fuel. Am I correct.

Steering ratio: 13.18:1????

Why would it be different? Does this make it harder to steer or easier? I have a MC and the steering is one my favorite things about this car. The "weight" is perfect in my opinion. I typically like the steering more on the heavy side.

Sorry to hijack the thread...

Complete speculation on my part, but, I think the steering ratio is defined as the degrees of turn in the steering wheel versus the degrees of turn in the wheels. So, on a car with the 13.18:1 steering ratio, you need to turn your steering wheel 13.18 degrees to get 1 degree of turn in the wheels. Again, I'm speculating, but this seems to make sense.

That means that the MCS actually has slightly slower steering than the MC, but I doubt if I can feel .3 degrees in the steering wheel. In other words, these are essentially the same steering ratios.

As to why there might be a difference, my guess is that it's either due to a slightly different suspension, or maybe it was a compromise to allow room for some other components. My guess is that the S steering ratio would be due to suspension differences.

But as for the steering feeling heavy or light, I think that depends on a lot of different factors. Steering ratio is a big one, but the amount of power assist also would make a big difference. Some cars (don't know if the MINI does or not) have a steering stabilizer that provide some damping to the steering system. That probably would contribute to a heavy steering feel. Also the suspension geometries probably make a big difference in steering feel.

In short, I dunno!
