Hi,

Yesterday, my wife told me my Clubman S had parking light staying on in my garage. Usually, it automatically turns off after the engine is stopped for a few minutes. I used remote to lock it and the light was off. Anyway, it is abnormal.

Today, I wanted to drive my car. I pressed start button but the engine was not started. I checked the voltage. It was 11V. The dashboard flicked and blinked abnormally when I pressed the start button. Sometimes, exclamation mark showed. I unpluged the battery cable to reset the ECU. After 2 hours, connected and tried to start the engine. Same thing! Rechecked the voltage, I could notice that it constantly dropped fast from 11V to 8V.

Called the Roadside service. When the tow car arrived. I found the battery was drained totally!

It was finally towed to Eastbay Mini dealer and looking forward to hearing the diagnosis :-)

 

As you may have already suspected, probable cause is a dead battery. Best of luck.

 

had the battery replaced by a new and larger one as well as updated the ECU at dealer all for free. Dealer said the battery was dead. Reason unknown.
I think recently it was not driven too many. Before dead, the temperture is on 34F. Too cold to die!
