I bought my 2003 mini cooper used, and since day 1 my radio was all staticky, but cd's played just fine. I bought 3 different kinds of antennas, just bought an expensive one, and same results, only I got a few more stations with this one. Weird thing was when finger was on the antenna it was clear as day, then I needed something in the trunk, bumped the drivers side rear panel, and sound got clear, so I removed that insulation crap inside that small access panel, found 3 wires that were exposed, and shorting out causing the sound to be all staticky. I believe those wires went to the speakers, but my cd's played fine which is strange.

Just thought I would write this up incase somebody else has this issue, cause I had no clue what could be wrong, my next thing was going to be replacing the antenna with cable that goes from the roof to the radio, until I found those wires sliced, and shorting out. Not sure how that could've happened, but its fixed.
