Hiccup under modereate acceleration
Hiccup under modereate acceleration
For about a week now I've been noticing a slight hiccup under moderate- hard acceleration in second gear an once or twice in third gear. I was thinkin it could be an a cylinder misfire possibly due to carbon build up. Does a cylinder misfire have a cel or does it just store the code? I have a 2010 mcs with 46k on the clock. Any help is appreciated
It can do both; if the misfire is not severe enough the ECU logs a fault, but may not illuminate the CEL.
Scan the ECU with a MINI-approved protocol scanner and see what's up.
Also, don't be afraid to pull and spot check the gap on the spark plugs when the engine is cold.

let's start simple
what model do you have (S or not)
and what fuel have you been running (octane and brand/source)?
does this happen at ALL times, or only when cold?

Coil and gap recommendations are old school . . . . yes they MIGHT still apply but coils today are long term items and plug gap on iridium plugs should not need to be adjusted . . . most come out of the box pre-set. The electrodes on our plugs don't look like what we saw back in the 70's.
on the other hand, pulling plugs and checking their color is old school that STILL applies . . .

NGK: Platinum PLZKBR7A-G = preset gap of 0.90mm (0.0354").
NGK: Iridium ILZKBR7A-8G = preset gap of 0.80mm (0.0314").
It could be a coil, but the cool thing diagnosing a bad coil, is that you can swap a coil from cylinder to cylinder.
If the misfire moves with the swapped coil, you know it's such.
Coils aren't that expensive and very easy to replace if that's the problem at hand.

I use 91 octane from various places
It has been doing it the last two weeks on and off but doesn't seem to have anything to do with temperature
Erik thanks for the response, I will just need to get a scanner that can see hidden codes because it has not caused a cel so it is stored. I am still under warranty and have extended maintenance so I may just bring it to the dealer if it continues

It seems to do this most of the time I drive, but I haven't done any very long trips since it started. I commute about 20 miles to and from school and it doesn't it right when I leave and when I'm at school so I don't believe it is related to engine temp but I haven't been paying the closest attention to it
Name brand, usually shell Valero or citgo as that's what's around me

Did you figure out what the cause was? We have the same problem with our "08 Clubman S. (105k) Does anyone know how a bad fuel pump acts? We've never run out of gas, but we've let it run very low on several occasions. We use only 93 octane.
I'm currently on vacation I'm bringing it in when I come home, my friend told me it is most likely the ignition coils which I suspected but could possibly be a maf issue
