I went in for my 10K last week. As far as I can tell I got an oil change. End of.

I had checked my radiator resevoir (overflow?) just before I went in and it was empty. Bone dry empty. After I picked up the car after the 10K service the resevoir was still bone dry.

What else should have been done or what else have you had done besides the oil change (free of course, as I know they charge for tire rotations, etc)?

You would think they would at least top off things like radiator, brake fluid, etc, etc. I mean you at least get that at Jiffy Lube.

I wonder how so many people can come and take at look at what the thread is about but not one reply. Simple question: Did you get more than an oil change at 10K or what? Unfrigginbelievable.

Never mind, I've lost interest.

no need to worry.. if you car was out of coolant, it would have died by now.. or is well on its way in which case you may just get new parts, like a motor and stuff. Everyone loves a new motor

Your dealer should be able to provide you with a handout that describes specifically what BMW says is to be done at each service. (I believe...although am not positive...that this info is in the MANUAL too!) Then, you can compare this to what the service manager TELLS you they did. The key here is to talk to the service manager (and preferably the mechanic) and to inspect the car before you drive off. If you do neither and then find out later (at home) that certain things weren't done...well, I'd have to say that at least part of the "blame" here is on you.

That said, not topping off the fluids is pretty bad service...and I'd think that any dealer worth the name would check those. I know mine does.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I was feeling all neglected there for a minute. Not only that, but I was halfway down my second bottle of vino when I sent that last night.

Thanks again (I think),

Ken

When I had my service they changed the oil, changed the HVAC filter and added 16 oz. of windshield washer fluid. Can't understand how they added that much fluid since I filled it up just recently and I know I didn't use any as of then. I guess I need to go and check my coolant overflow before I run out. I'm not sure why they change the HVAC filter and not the engine air filter. They said they do that at the next service. When I got home I checked it and it wasn't necessary to change yet, but I also only had 8,500 miles before my car said it was time. But I can't imagine more than double the miles I have on it now. I think I'm gonna change it at about 10,000 miles. I was told I needed a tire rotation, but said I had a lift I can use at any time for that and didn't even ask what the price was. But they did mention something around $20.

I hope you didn't pay it. They are supposed to get your approval in advance in writing on a work estimate and get further approval if the estimate changes more than a minor amount -- at least in my state.

$100 for tire rotation is outrageous. Many tire places do it for FREE as a courtesy. Just another example of fine BMW service...

At my 10K service, the dealer gave me a loaner car, another MINI, for the entire day. They changed the oil and oil filter, and some sorta HVAC air filter. They also checked the VIN for any "service enhancements" (i.e.: recalls) which there was one on mine: replace power steering fan relay. They also uploaded program V36 and repaired (re-glued?) some loose molding -- the chrome strip -- above the rear quarter panel. When I returned to pick the car up at 6 PM, I found they had hand-washed it as well. Cost: $0.

I did pick up a gallon of MINI antifreeze while I was there, so I will be able to top it off myself, as needed. This set me back around $17.00. Then I ordered a new OEM air filter from Moss Mini, which I also installed myself. At 10,000 miles, the original air filter was still fairly clean, but I wanted to replace it anyway... Currently, the computer says "14,100 miles to next service" which will be a bit under 25,000 miles, as I have 10,400 miles on the car as of today.

Rock On,

-Joe

I went to Global Imports in Atlanta fo my 10k service.

I got:

#1) Refusal of warranty for my stress fractured windshield

#2) A free oil change with an over-tightened filter that broke the gasket causing a free oil leak

#3) A four hour wait for the above services

They was offering a Balance and rotate for that price.
We do it for $45. now this is not just a rotation, this is a rebalance of all 4 wheels.
99% of the Coopers I have done balance and rotates on have been out of balance.

On the first service,(10k) miles, you will get :
1.Oil Service
2. bottle of windshield washer fluid
3.serv. reminder reset.
4. new microfilter.
5 check all 4 brakes for wear, record pad thickness.
