Have You Had Your Clutch Replaced?

I am curious to know how may people have had to replace the clutch on their second generation car, and what the mileage was when it was replaced.

I just got a new clutch in my 08 Cooper S Clubman at only 47,000 miles. I think that's total BS, and what I've read on here leads me to believe that this is not that uncommon. There's a thread up right now with someone that needs a new clutch at less than 10K. Under normal use, I think a clutch should last 100K easy.

I get the strong impression that this is a major design flaw and that it's costing a lot of us a good deal of money, since the clutch doesn't fall under the warranty. I purposely purchased a certified pre-owned car because of the extended warranty, so I was pretty ticked off when the dealer told me I'd have to pay for the repair out of pocket.

So if you've had to get a new clutch, post your mileage please. And if anyone's succeeded in getting a dealer or MINI to pick up the tab I'd love to know about it.

Had my clutch replaced at 1,500 miles. Had a bad flywheel and they felt it was better to replace clutch as well. This was only a few weeks after delivery and covered on my 2010 MCS.

Clutch and flywheel done at 55,000km on a 2009 Clubman D.

I paid for labour and clutch kit, flywheel was thrown in as a goodwill after I wrote a letter to Mini headquarters in Munich.

The clutch and flywheel were replaced on my JCW at 29k miles. Seems like a pretty short life. Its not like I drive it all that hard either. It was about $2800 to repair. Unlike the brakes, its not covered under warranty or maintenance plans.

Everything I've read is the clutch maintenance will be warrantied unless it was found to be damaged by the operator. Also the local MINI dealer said, specifically, that they would warranty one clutch replace during the extended maintenance warranty, I didn't ask anything about the original maintenance warranty.
