Bentley Manual worth it?
Bentley Manual worth it?
Since i'm seriously considering replacing the timing chain assembly myself, i'm curious if the manuals are worth buying. More info is always better (torque specs, etc), but just wondering if its a good reference book.
Definitely. We have one here at the office and it's a great resource/guide.

Bentley Manual
If you are planning to replace your timing chain or perform any significant maintenance on your MINI the manual is worth having. A factory shop manual or equivalent is the first item I purchase after acquiring a new vechicle.
I am also perparing to change my timing chain and have the cam/crank locks and chain kit. The manual does a good job with the install procedure. The manual is also thorough in that it covers the entire car. It does lack detail in some areas but this is easily overcome if you like wrenching.

The Bentley manual for my wife's 911 is better than the one for my MINI, but it's still pretty decent. I wish it covered a few more things, like transmission internals. Some of the sections can be a little confusing with the way the different versions of the car (e.g., N17, N19, etc.) are handled, too.
Still, it's a couple of light-years better than manuals like the Chilton or Haynes.
I think the best workshop manual I've seen so far is for my old CRX. Tons of detail, and mostly used line-drawings instead of photos so they could show you only the details that were important. And the most enjoyable manual was definitely the old John Muir VW "Idiot" guide.

Do NOT rely upon information garnished from the web. I found what I believed to be proper torque's,.....wound up being TOO tight, and broke.
THE BOOK, has all proper torque's, directions, etc....
