Yellow CEL

Went to start up this afternoon and the car stumbled a bit at startup and then threw a Yellow CEL. I shut down and we decided to take my wife's car to dinner instead. Got home and checked the usual stuff... gas cap...oil... all ok. Tried starting up again, no stumble but the CEL is still popping up. I've read some of the threads here and most pertain to cold weather issues and since I'm in SoCal... that ain't it. I wish I had an OBD reader to see what code is being flagged. The wife is going to baby the car over to Ontario in the morning and have them look at it since I have to work. I'm about two weeks away from the one year mark and have just under 11k on the odo.

Maybe it is like mine and has a bad wiring harness?

Mine was misfiring on a cylinder or two. At first it only did it once or twice after it had been sitting for a week, but after a bit it would improve which made me think maybe it was just bad gas. After a month the CEL finally came on and it really started to misfire bad, but it still wasnt consistently having this issue. Its at the dealer now. It took them a while to get it to repeat what it was doing to me, and at first they thought it was an injector, but after replacing it and still getting the misfire they think it is a bad pin on the wiring harness so that is getting replaced. They say I will have it back on Tuesday, so will let ya know. BTW, my issue started right about 10k miles as well.

I drove it quite a bit on Friday and it was fine, it sat in the garage Saturday and then when we were about to go to dinner... CEL. We'll see what the dealer says tomorrow.

Maybe it's this, maybe it's that, maybe it's item "x"... who knows. I will never understand why CEL discussions with no known problems like the fault code number are posted on NAM. This discussion should be deleted since it does not add to the NAM community.

Shane, I would assume that when the code is extracted or the repair effected, that Vinman is going to share some details w/ us. Perhaps we could cut him a little slack in the meantime?
I find it curious that we have 2 vehicles both w/ about 10K on the clock exhibiting similar symptoms. I for one would like to know if they happen to come up w/ the same diagnosis. Maybe thats just my "IT Geek" coming out, looking for common causalities.

Yeah, I fully intend to follow up with the resolution to the issue in the hopes of adding to the knowledge base. These threads exist for that purpose. I read threads here all the time that start out with a problem and chronicle the issue through to the eventual solution. So how is this any different?

Vin, that was precisely my thought as well. I have found many vexing issues answered or at least discussed on these posts, that are unique little "gotchas" that Gremlin our MINIs in general.

If anything the replies like Shane's are the waste of space since they add nothing to the overall discussion other than someone being rude on the Internet.

Had the CEL a year or so ago, diagnosed as failed O sensor which was replaced ($$$), cause was poor choice of fuel vendor. Mine's a Gen 1 R52 but when I see posts like this even though it is in the Gen 2 closet I still drop in for a peek. You never know what you can learn, right, Shane?

The title of the discussion is "Yellow CEL". Unless the title is eventually renamed, this discussion will fall into the thousands of other unspecific discussions. NAM is becoming a bottomless pit of discussions like this. Call me rude, but these are just the facts.

Ok, we get it... You don't approve of this thread. Next time I'll try to remember to clear things with you beforehand since I wasn't aware that was required. Seriously, move on and take rude somewhere else.

Hey bud, I answered this problem on another forum, I know 2 people including myself with the same issue, around the same mileage and same year vehicle. I'm 99% sure it's your maintenance interval check light so the dealer can change your oil and handle any other warranty/ recall items. A lot of people with older model cars don't understand the r56 models and there maintenance plans. I just had my 2012 S serviced last week. Scan gauges are good at diagnosing issues but its always best to call up the dealer especially since your car has a service plan and warranty.

Sorry MINI562, I think Im going to have to disagree here. Stumbles and misfires, maintenance light this isn't. To quote Apollo 13, we've got bangs and shimmies, this ain't instrumentation.
Something else going on here, hopefully minor but first step is to grab a ALDL plug-in or get on over to AutoZone and find out what code(s) you have. One of the things I love about my Edge CS, it will read codes in plain English and then clear them. Very helpful. I got one of these once, Cylinder 3 misfire, never came back. Random hickup, but with all the horror stories on here, gave me a cold-chill for a few seconds.

My bad, I guess I should've read it stumbled.. My last car had same issue. It ended up being the fuel pump at 16k. This is me slapping my hand (slap slap) for not reading the entire post.

I finally talked to my wife about her drive over to the dealer and she said it felt weird and stuttered so she kept it slow. They were busy and won't be able to do the diagnostic till morning. I was listening to the idle before she drove off and it was kinda rough. I'll post what they tell me tomorrow.

Ok, the SA called this afternoon and said that the Coolant Temp Sensor that is under recall tripped the CEL and put the car into reduced power "Limp Mode". My wife is picking the car up tomorrow and hopefully that is the end of the matter.
