leaky thermostat

Hi,

I have a coolant leak on a driver side. I think it is "famous" thermostat housing.
Around 40k miles, this was replace by a dealer. and out of warranty now (beyond two year too). My question is that there is leak by the gasket to an engine side? or thermostat housing itself? (if so, somewhere crack in it?) Anybody who replaced this before, can you tell me what is failing exactly?

Thanks,

Almost certainly the housing itself cracking or warping - it's made of plastic, and doesn't cope with the repeated heat-cool cycles. It's actually fairly simple to replace if you're willing to get your hands dirty - it took me most of an afternoon including beer breaks - and the part will set you back around $110 if you shop around online.

There's a solid guide in the how-to section on the forums.
