Turbo Intake Pipe broken - need advice

Thanks for helping out a new Mini owner. I have a R56 Cooper S that has a broken Turbo Intake Pipe. The closest Mini dealer is 6 hours away, so taking it in isn't really an option.

My questions are:

- can someone direct me to an online site where I can buy an OEM replacement?
- is there any value in making an upgrade to something like an Alta hard intake (I like my current balance between MPG and power)
- Is this a job I can do myself? (I don't have much mechanical experience, but I like working on things)
- Can I drive this to a local shop to have the work done in its current condition?

I've attached a few pictures of the break.

Thanks for the help!

There are many places that sell online parts. Below is a link to one of them, but I have no experience with them.

http://imbmparts.com/bmw-parts/

It doesn't go to the exact parts page, sorry.

11-14 of 14 Parts 1 2
ENGINE / ENGINE / TRANSAXLE / AIR INTAKE / Flex tube Flex tube W/TURBOCHARGER

Online Price $85.94 View Part Diagram -- Item #12

You might also want to look for an aftermarket intake instead of spending your money on stock parts.

Go to the modifications section for Generation 2 and you'll see plenty of discussions about aftermarket intakes.

Welcome to NAM and good luck!

+1. There's several of them. You can also look at ecstuning.com, realoem.com and penskeparts.com. I haven't had to use any if them since theres a local used MINI parts in my area.

As far as replacing it, you can definitely do this yourself. Also search the threads about cleaning the replacement to keep it from slipping off. They tend to do this whether or not you have an aftermarket air filter. Mine did this before and after replacing it. I cleaned it with denatured alcohol and used some hairspray as recommended by others. It hasn't slipped off since.

Thank you both for the advice!

GregsMini - Thanks for the diagram and the recommendation for an online retailer, this is very helpful.

MiniBOL - Good advice on the cleaning and the hairspray

Cheers!
